Dominik Szoboszlai Criticised For ‘Salty’ Actions Immediately After Man Utd vs Liverpool

Dominik Szoboszlai had every reason to feel frustrated after Liverpool’s loss away to Manchester United. However, he’s been criticised for his actions after the full-time whistle.

The Hungarian had been one of Liverpool’sbrightest players on a difficult afternoon at Old Trafford, scoring to pull the visitors back to 2-1 and teeing up Cody Gakpo for the equaliser, only for Kobbie Mainoo’s 77th-minute winner to snatch all three points for United.

What happened next, however, has rather overshadowed his contributions on the pitch, with plenty of United fans quickly taking X to put him in his place.

Szoboszlai’s Post-Match Gesture

As the 25-year-old made his way towards Old Trafford’s tunnel at full-time, he was caught on camera looking up to the United supporters and pointing deliberately to the gold Premier League badge on the sleeve of his shirt, the badge worn by the reigning champions, signifying Liverpool’s status as the current holders of the title.

Many players have done similar when responding to opposition fans after losses. Sergio Ramos was notorious for the same kind of gesture, as was Cristiano Ronaldo.

In the same fixture in 2006, United legend Gary Neville was banned for two matches and fined for his post-match actions towards Liverpool fans. It was a bold choice of gesture for Szoboszlai, and United fans weren’t slow to respond.

Man United Fans Are Not Having It 

The problem with pointing to a Premier League badge at Old Trafford, as many were keen to point out, is that Manchester United have won the title 13 times, albeit not since 2013, but Liverpool have won it just twice.

“Does bro know we have won it 13 times?” wrote one United fan.

Another was more elaborate: “Someone might want to tell Dominik Szoboszlai that the Premier League title taunt doesn’t really work between Manchester United and Liverpool. Manchester United won more PL titles just by doing a three-peat than Liverpool have won in the PL’s entire 34-year history.”

The theme continued: “He’s showing a LOGO to someone who has won it 13 times. Meanwhile, they have won it only twice. Embarrassment at its finest.”

Another simply noted: “This is, I’m afraid, the most rattled thing you can possibly do in this situation.”

Perhaps the most cutting contribution came from a fan who called him a “David Beckham wannabe” before reminding him of the 13-2 disparity in Premier League titles and calling him a “clown”.
