Jacquet – 7, Wirtz – 2: rating Liverpool players in crushing Man City loss

Jeremy Jacquet – 7

Arguably Liverpool’s best defender in the shocking defensive display in the second half. Jacquet did well to neutralize Haaland’s threat for large sections of the match, having 11 defensive contributions (most for Liverpool players) and also winning five duels. Could’ve perhaps done a bit better for the third goal, but he held his head up with some good defensive work.

Victor Munoz – 6

Munoz was able to show some admirable pace and intent with his work on the right-work, tormenting the Cityzens with his clever forward runs. He did well in getting the ball in some prime positions and help move his side forward, but just didn’t get enough support from his teammates.

Ryan Gravenberch – 5

That was actually a pretty eventful performance for Gravenberch. He was excellent for the first hour or so, making four dribbles and making seven defensive contributions. However, he ended up picking up two bookings to get sent off – soon after which Liverpool’s downfall began in the clash.
Bradley Barcola – 4.5

Barcola did try hard to get things going in the attack, as he was able to create two noteworthy chances and looked promising with a few forward runs. However, his final product was just not good enough and he failed to really pose a major goal threat for the Reds either.
Virgil van Dijk – 4.5

Van Dijk was just not able to hold together a strong enough defensive shape after Liverpool went down to 10 men, as he failed to rally his teammates properly. The Dutchman was totally outwitted by Erling Haaland for his goal, and his positioning for a number of Man City’s moves was quite questionable.
Florian Wirtz – 2

In a game where he could’ve proven his quality for Liverpool after coming off a pretty good international break, Wirtz continues to batter his own reputation. He was extremely ineffective in front of goal, having zero goal-scoring threat and seeing all his efforts go horribly off-target.

Even though Wirtz did create a few promising situations, his creative threat was quite low and his poor first touches and tendency to regularly lose possession didn’t help his case at all.
