According to French newspaper L’Equipe, Hugo Ekitike faces a long spell on the sidelines after suffering a serious injury in the PSG defeat at Anfield.

The Liverpool striker is suspected to have ruptured his right Achilles tendon.

If the worst fears come true, Ekitike is set to be sidelined for up to nine months, meaning he might not only miss the rest of this season and the World Cup, but also the remainder of the calendar year.

At the same time, The Times’ Paul Joyce reports that Ekitike is yet to undergo full medical tests with Liverpool on Wednesday.

However, he confirms that a serious Achilles injury will result in a lengthy absence.
