Jurgen Klopp was back in Liverpool last week as Kenny Dalglish’s assistant manager during a Legends match with another of his old clubs, Borussia Dortmund. Seeing the German back in the club’s tracksuit got fans of the Premier League side reminiscing and asking whether he’d ever return to the dugout.

That chatter has only increased as Arne Slot’s first game back from the international break saw the Reds thrashed 4-0 by Manchester City. The Dutchman’s job has looked under threat for many months now after a poor title defence and several hugely disappointing results.

There’s been a clamour for ex-Reds midfielder Xabi Alonso as Slot’s potential successor, but it would be difficult to find a Liverpool supporter who wouldn’t have Klopp back. According to one of the players in his Legends team last week, that’s a concrete possibility.

Klopp lifted the Premier League and Champions League at Anfield during an incredible nine-year reign, transforming the club from a sleeping giant to a European powerhouse. Now, Vladimir Smicer has sensationally claimed he thinks it’s inevitable Klopp will manage Liverpool again one day.

It comes after the retired midfielder played for the Liverpool Legends, and he had the chance to spend time with the German icon. He told BetVictor: “Seeing Jurgen Klopp back at Anfield was unbelievable. I never played under him, so it was fantastic to see him personally as a coach.

“This time, he was only an assistant coach to Kenny Dalglish. It was funny when he said this is the easiest job he’s ever had.”

“He’s very charismatic and unbelievably popular with the Liverpool fans. It was great to be near him, to speak to him. I had a few chances to discuss things. It was fantastic,” Smicer continued.

The 52-year-old, who scored in the greatest Champions League comeback of all time in the 2005 final against AC Milan, continued to wax lyrical about Klopp. Smicer thinks it would be ‘impossible’ to turn Klopp down if he wants to return in future. That’s why he thinks it’s inevitable he will be back in charge further down the line, as he added:

“He’s very funny, he has good humour, and always brings a great atmosphere with him. It was fantastic to see him back. Because of him, the stadium was full as well. I think people love him at Anfield and it was a great day.

“If you ask anyone in Liverpool if Jurgen Klopp should come back one day, everyone will say yes, of course. He has something special with the Liverpool fans, the city, and the football club. That’s for sure, definitely.

“I think if he wants to return, it will be difficult to turn him down. Actually, I think it’s impossible. I think we will see him back one day.”
