Liverpool break silence on Arne Slot’s future after Jurgen Klopp’s honest admission.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot‘s job is SAFE despite whimpering out of the EFL Cup at home to Crystal Palace. The Merseysiders suffered a 3-0 loss at home to the Eagles on Wednesday, marking a sixth defeat in seven games and their second against Palace in that span.

After blazing a trail to Premier League glory in his first season at Anfield, form has suddenly fallen off a cliff for Slot. The Reds started the campaign in perfect fashion and won each of their first seven games in all competitions. But six defeats in seven have followed, leaving Liverpool seventh in the league table and out of the Carabao Cup. It’s enough to amplify the noise from outside, with some wondering how far form has to fall before Slot’s job is up for discussion.

However, the simple matter of the fact is Slot is not under pressure right now and is very much being backed by those at the top. The Dutchman’s achievement in winning the league title his first season after replacing Jurgen Klopp has given him plenty of credit in the bank and Liverpool have no intention of making a managerial change during this current bad patch.

The question has been posed as to whether Liverpool would turn back to predecessor Klopp in a moment of dire need. And the Reds’ most iconic manager of the past decade or two, who left Anfield in 2024 after suffering from burnout, has already hinted a reunion could be possible if the stars aligned.

Speaking on The Diary of a CEO podcast earlier in October, the German said: “I said I will never coach a different team in England so that means, if [I did return], then it’s Liverpool. So, yeah, theoretically it is possible.”

To his credit, Slot has acknowledged the mounting pressure around his position in light of Wednesday’s loss. That being said, he didn’t feel his second loss to the Eagles in the space of seven games had truly changed anything.

“If you are on a run of results like this, if you play for Liverpool, if you manage Liverpool, the pressure is there,” he said at Anfield after the midweek defeat. “I don’t think it has changed much after this loss.

“There are multiple reasons we have lost so many games, but with all the reasons still are no excuses to lose so many. But it hasn’t been helpful that all the games we lost there were only two days in between the games we had to play away from home.”

Liverpool were slated as home underdogs in the cup clash after naming a largely second-string side with only academy players on the bench. However, Slot came out in defence of the squad he picked when questioned about whether he had given the match enough respect.

He continued: “It is always a blow to lose a game of football. Especially if it leads to going out of a competition. But it is the same selection I did last season in rounds like this. There are many reasons we lost five out of six, or six out of seven. None of them are good enough to accept losing so many.”
