COLUMBUS, Ohio — Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian feels good about running back CJ Baxter playing in the team’s first game against Ohio State on August 30.
Sarkisian shared this news while talking to Saints player Cam Jordan on the “Off the Edge” show, which came out on Wednesday. Sarkisian said Baxter’s recovery is going well, and he seems happy. It usually takes 12 months to fully recover from an ACL injury, and Baxter has had that time.
Baxter was the top-rated running back in the 2023 recruiting class. In his first year, he ran for 659 yards and scored five touchdowns. Many thought he would be Texas’s main running back in 2024, but he hurt his ACL during preseason camp in August and missed his second year.
Baxter is from Orlando, Florida. When he was being recruited, Ohio State was one of the teams interested in him.

Ohio State’s women’s basketball team will play their first NCAA Tournament game on Friday against No. 13 seed Montana State. The game will be at 5:30 p.m. Eastern at the Schottenstein Center. Ohio State, a No. 4 seed, is a 15.5-point favorite to win, according to DraftKings.
If Ohio State wins, they will face the winner of the game between No. 5 seed Tennessee and No. 12 seed South Florida, who play at 8 p.m. on Friday.
