Kansas City quarterback, Patrick Mahomes is currently on pace to become one of the best players in story. That’s a statement that not even his biggest critics can deny.

Mahomes, the No. 10 pick from the 2017 NFL Draft, has already won three Super Bowl titles with the Chiefs. He’s been named the MVP of the league twice and has already thrown for over 32,000 yards. If he retired today, he’d still make it to the Hall of Fame. That’s how special his career has been.

And yet, the story of Patrick Mahomes was almost never told.

On Friday night, Randi Mahomes was asked how she kept her son motivated during his high school career. She revealed that Patrick actually thought about quitting football.

“There were times when he would get a little down, even a moment in high school when he wanted to quit football,” Mahomes’ mother replied. “Yes, he did. And I encouraged him that sitting out a season of sports and watching the games, it was not going to be fun for him. And so, he stuck to it, fortunately.”

Well, we’re certainly glad that Mahomes didn’t quit.

At this stage in his career, Mahomes doesn’t need motivation from his parents. The star quarterback is simply fueled by his shortcomings.

After the Chiefs lost to the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, Mahomes told the NFL world that he’s going to do everything in his power to be an even better player this fall.

“That’s the beauty of football is that you never can be satisfied with just coming out there and playing and thinking you’re going to have success year in and year out. These defenses are going to continue to get better and better, and so I have to get better,” Mahomes said, via ESPN. “I take a lot of ownership in that, and I want to hopefully come back and play better football this next season.”
