Liverpool are expected to make a ‘significant offer’ for one of their top targets this summer as they look to replace Jarrell Quansah – and it could play into the hands of Premier League rivals Chelsea.
It has been a busy summer at Anfield.
Shortly after announcing the signing of right-back Jeremie Frimpong from Leverkusen, teammate Florian Wirtz also left the BayArena for Liverpool in a club-record deal worth an initial £100 million, plus £16 million in add-ons.
It appears the Premier League champions are also on the verge of signing £45 million-rated Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez, while centre-back Jarell Quansah is said to be in “advanced negotiations” to leave for Leverkusen.
Liverpool, meanwhile are demanding up to £40 million for the 22-year-old defender, although both parties are close to agreeing a £30 million deal plus £5.5 million in add-ons, according to Sky Sports.
So, who will be Quansah’s replacement? Well, it appears Liverpool are about to make a ‘significant offer’ to sign Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, according to a report from The Telegraph.
Spurs had an offer worth £55 million plus £15 million in add-ons rejected by Palace in January.
But it appears Liverpool are in the best position to do a deal this summer, which would benefit Premier League rivals Chelsea after they included a 20 per cent sell-on clause when they sold Guehi to Palace in 2021.
The defender became Palace’s third most expensive signing ever when he joined for a fee of £18 million.
And according to The Mirror, Chelsea made sure to include a sell-on clause when they sold him to the Eagles – a decision that could earn them a cash boost of £8 million if Liverpool, or another interested club, bid £40 million.
Palace also rejected multiple bids from Newcastle for the defender, as well as the previously mentioned offer from Tottenham in January.
Speaking around the FA Cup final, Guehi refused to be drawn on the speculation over his future and highlighted his commitment to the club.
“I think the most important thing is just always doing the best that I can for this football club,” he said. “I come in every day and I try to be the same. I try to work hard. And you know, this football club has given me a lot
I’m still under contract at this football club, so my focus is always at this football club.”
He added: “So, you know, for me, the most important is just doing the best I can and seeing where the future holds.”
Guehi has previously been linked with a return to Chelsea, but it appears Liverpool are best placed to sign him this summer. Image credit: Getty
