Lewis Hamilton won the Chinese Grand Prix Sprint, getting his first victory with Ferrari. After struggling in his debut race for Ferrari in Australia, where he finished 10th in the rain, Hamilton bounced back strongly. He took pole position in the Sprint on Friday and went on to win the 19-lap race on Saturday.
Hamilton’s move to Ferrari after 12 seasons with Mercedes attracted a lot of attention, especially after his difficult debut in Australia, which he described as a “disaster.” Speaking after his Sprint win in Shanghai, Hamilton said that many people underestimated how challenging it is to adapt to a new team and a different car. He criticized those who made “uneducated guesses” about his struggles, saying they might not understand what it takes to adjust to a new environment.
When asked if winning the Sprint made the criticism more satisfying, Hamilton said he wasn’t trying to respond to his critics. He explained that people today are quick to be negative without understanding the situation. He also mentioned that some people he admired had made wrong judgments about his performance.
Hamilton admitted that switching to Ferrari was not easy and couldn’t be done quickly. He compared his experience to former Ferrari drivers like Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel, who also took time to adjust when they joined the team. He said he’s trying to build a strong connection with the team and sees a lot of potential for success.
Despite his Sprint win, Hamilton was cautious about his chances of competing with top teams like McLaren throughout the season. He noted that his car felt better in Shanghai, but it’s important not to get ahead of themselves based on one good result. Hamilton hopes to continue learning and improving with the team, aiming to stay competitive in future races.
