Former Alabama wide receiver Isaiah Bond has drawn comparisons to Miami Dolphins star Jaylen Waddle, and he embraces the comparison. Known for his elite speed, route-running, and big-play ability, Bond sees similarities between his game and Waddle’s, both of whom excel at stretching the field and creating explosive plays after the catch.
Bond, who played two seasons at Alabama, recently transferred to Texas ahead of the 2024 college football season. During his time with the Crimson Tide, he showcased his game-breaking ability, recording 48 receptions for 668 yards and four touchdowns in 2023. His most notable moment came in the 2023 Iron Bowl against Auburn when he caught a game-winning touchdown pass from Jalen Milroe on a 4th-and-31 play, solidifying his reputation as a clutch performer.
Waddle, also a former Alabama standout, was a first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Dolphins and has since become one of the league’s premier young receivers. His elite speed, agility, and playmaking ability have made him a crucial weapon in Miami’s offense, where he pairs with Tyreek Hill to form one of the most dangerous receiving duos in the NFL.
Bond has acknowledged the similarities between his style of play and Waddle’s, citing their shared ability to gain separation quickly, turn short passes into big gains, and threaten defenses vertically. While Bond still has room to develop, especially in terms of refining his route tree and improving his physicality against press coverage, he has the raw tools that could make him a dangerous weapon at the next level.
At Texas, Bond will look to take the next step in his development under head coach Steve Sarkisian, who has a history of maximizing wide receiver talent. Playing in a high-powered Longhorns offense led by quarterback Quinn Ewers, Bond has the opportunity to elevate his draft stock and prove he can be an impact player at the next level. His speed and explosiveness should fit well in Texas’ offensive system, allowing him to showcase his playmaking ability on a national stage.
Bond’s potential as an NFL prospect will depend on how he continues to develop in Austin, but scouts are already taking notice of his skill set.
