IU WOMEN BASKET BALL HANDLES OHIO STATE’S FULL COURT PRESS

The Indiana Fever waived former Ohio State guard and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year Celeste Taylor after 18 regular-season games.¹

Ohio State women’s basketball head coach Kevin McGuff was named to the Naismith Women’s College Coach of the Year Watch List.² This is McGuff’s fourth time on the watch list in the past five seasons, and he was a semifinalist last season. McGuff led Ohio State to its second-best unbeaten start in program history this season, winning the first 17 games. The Buckeyes have three ranked wins on their resume so far this season, with one of those being against a top 10 opponent.

The Buckeyes are currently ranked third in the Big Ten standings with four games left on their regular season schedule.³ They recently earned an 82-69 win at Penn State to sweep the season’s series and improve to 14-1 in Big Ten play. Jacy Sheldon led the Buckeyes’ four double-figure scorers with 20 points, joined by Cotie McMahon, Celeste Taylor, and Taylor Thierry.

Ohio State will host Maryland on Sunday for senior day at 2 p.m..⁴ The game will be broadcast on BTN and AM1460. The Buckeyes will celebrate their senior class prior to the game, and there will be a dunk team, dance performance, and a rally towel giveaway to Buckeyes Care Participants.

The Buckeyes have a strong roster this season, with all five starters receiving conference recognition. Cotie McMahon is a top 10 finalist for the Cheryl Miller Award and is on the watch lists for the Naismith Trophy, Wooden Award, and USBWA Ann Meyers Drysdale Player of the Year. Taylor Thierry was named to the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year watch list. Freshman Jaloni Cambridge joined McMahon on the USBWA Ann Meyers Drysdale Player of the Year midseason watch list.
