Lewis Hamilton had a rough first race with Ferrari at the Australian Grand Prix, and Red Bull team boss Christian Horner didn’t miss the chance to poke fun at it.
The race in Melbourne had tricky weather, with teams having to make last-minute decisions as heavy rain hit the track while they were still on dry tyres. Many drivers struggled—Liam Lawson and Gabriel Bortoleto crashed, failing to switch to wet tyres in time. Oscar Piastri also went off track, dropping to eighth place, while Max Verstappen took second behind Lando Norris.
HORNER CRITICIZES FERRARI’S STRATEGY
Ferrari also had trouble reacting to the wet conditions. They delayed pitting Hamilton and Charles Leclerc for wet tyres, while other front-runners made the switch on time. This mistake cost them valuable time, with Hamilton finishing in 10th place.
After the race, Horner mocked Ferrari’s slow decision-making, saying it was obvious when they should have changed tyres.
“It looked like they were taking a gamble, but they made the change at the worst time,” he told the media.
He added: “You always have to react to what’s happening around you. When it’s pouring in the pit lane, that’s usually a good sign to put wet tyres on!”
