Lewis Hamilton was disqualified from the Chinese Grand Prix because the rear skid block on his Ferrari was too thin. The rules say it should be at least 9mm thick, but Hamilton’s car measured between 8.5mm and 8.6mm. As a result, both Hamilton and his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc lost their race results because Leclerc’s car was also too light, missing the minimum weight by 1kg.
Hamilton had a tough race on Sunday after winning the Sprint race on Saturday. He made contact with Leclerc on the first lap and struggled to keep up with other drivers, finishing in 6th place. However, after the race, officials checked his car and found that the skid block was below the required thickness.
Hamilton and a Ferrari representative met with the race stewards, and they admitted it was a mistake by the team. The stewards then decided to disqualify Hamilton from the race.
Leclerc also faced a similar situation. After finishing 5th, officials checked his car and found it was underweight. He was also disqualified. The same happened to Pierre Gasly from Alpine, whose car was also too light. This means Alpine is still without points in the 2025 season.
With these disqualifications, other drivers moved up in their positions. Esteban Ocon, Kimi Antonelli, Alex Albon, and Ollie Bearman all moved up two places, while Lance Stroll and Carlos Sainz made it into the top 10 and earned points.
