Enzo Maresca Praises Leicester City Leaders and Hopes for Their Premier League Survival
Enzo Maresca, now Chelsea’s manager and former boss of Leicester City, gave instructions to his team during their Premier League match at Stamford Bridge.
Maresca has a lot of respect for Leicester City’s owner, Aiyawatt ‘Top’ Srivaddhanaprabha, and director of football, Jon Rudkin. He calls them the best people he has met in football. He also feels bad for Leicester City as they fight to avoid relegation.
Maresca’s Chelsea team won 1-0 against Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side on Sunday, making Leicester’s survival harder. They are now six points away from safety with 10 games left.
Maresca’s Thoughts on Leicester’s Struggles
Maresca did not comment on why Leicester is struggling but had only good things to say about the club’s leadership.
When he left Leicester, there were reports that he was unhappy with some things at the club and wanted changes. However, since joining Chelsea, he has spoken highly of his former team.
“I really feel sorry for Leicester because I will always be grateful to them,” Maresca said. “In football, the best people I have met are Leicester’s owner and sporting director.”
He added, “I hope Leicester stays in the Premier League. But I’m focused on Chelsea now, so it’s not my place to say if I’m surprised by their struggles.”
Maresca praised the Leicester staff, saying, “The people there care about you, your family, and your kids. It’s hard to find such good people in football. I really hope they stay in the Premier League.”
Maresca’s Post-Match Reaction
After the game, Maresca hugged many of his former Leicester players. However, only one player was mentioned in his post-match interview.
Speaking about Cole Palmer’s missed penalty, Maresca said, “Leicester’s goalkeeper, Mads Hermansen, is brilliant. Cole will score more penalties in the future, but he will also miss some.”
