Emma Raducanu has ended her short partnership with coach Vladimir Platenik after just two weeks. She brought Platenik on a trial basis before the Indian Wells tournament, but they parted ways following her first-round loss to Moyuka Uchijima.
Despite the split, Raducanu had a strong start at the Miami Open, winning her first match against Japan’s Sayaka Ishii in straight sets. Her spokesperson said that although Raducanu respected Platenik and the work they began, their partnership wasn’t going in the right direction.
Raducanu is now focused on her performance in Miami and finding the right coach to support her career. This coaching change comes after Nick Cavaday stepped down for health reasons following her third-round exit at the Australian Open.
Sky Sports News reported that the decision to part ways with Platenik was made by Raducanu herself. Platenik hopes that she gained something from their time working together.
Raducanu’s next match will be against Emma Navarro, the eighth seed, in the second round of the Miami Open. She knows it will be a tough challenge, but she plans to compete strongly and make the most of every point.
Meanwhile, Katie Boulter, another British player, was defeated by American Peyton Stearns, leaving Raducanu as the last British woman standing in the tournament.
