Coco Gauff Finds Happiness Off the Court After Miami Open Loss
Last year in February, Coco Gauff’s tennis season started with disappointment. She lost in the Australian Open semifinal to Aryna Sabalenka, who took revenge for her previous loss to Gauff at the 2023 US Open. After the defeat, Coco needed time to recover. Luckily, she had support from her boyfriend, rumored to be Jalen Sera.
Talking to Sky Sports Tennis, Coco shared, “The first night, I kept thinking about the match. I felt like just a few points decided everything. Then, I went home, took four or five days off, and spent time with my boyfriend.”
Now, one year later, Coco is facing another tough season. She struggled in Australia, performed poorly in the Middle East, and was eliminated early from the Miami Open. She lost in the Round of 16 to Magda Linette in straight sets (4-6, 4-6). After the match, Coco told The New York Times, “It wasn’t great today. It hasn’t been great for the last two weeks. I just felt off.”
Despite the tough loss, Coco is enjoying life outside of tennis. She has been exploring Miami, and it looks like Jalen Sera is by her side. On Wednesday, she shared an Instagram story featuring Sera’s post, which included pictures of them together in Miami. One image showed him holding a Miami Open tennis ball, while another captured them on a boat. He also shared a cute picture with cats at Miami Beach Club and a scenic photo of palm trees and the moon.
In the comments, they playfully teased each other. Gauff responded to Sera’s post by saying, “flawdaaa,” to which he replied, “flawdaaaa. my townnnnn!!!!!” She then joked, “tryna switch sides like your boy.”
Though Coco has never publicly confirmed Sera as her boyfriend, she once revealed in an interview with *Time* that she was in her “first real relationship.” She also shared that dating someone outside of tennis helped her relax. “Having someone to talk to who isn’t involved in tennis gives me a fresh perspective,” she said.
This support was crucial before the 2023 US Open when Gauff felt nervous the night before the tournament. Her boyfriend helped her stay calm, and she ended up winning the Grand Slam.
Sera has continued to be by her side, celebrating her birthday with a sweet message: “Happy birthdayyyy @cocogauff Big 21! I hope it’s your best one yet.” He also shared photos of them playing arcade games and enjoying Valentine’s Day together. Last month, Coco posted a picture of a bouquet with a heartfelt note from Sera that read, “Happy Valentine’s Day, star! I love you. What we have will mean everything to me, forever and always.”
The couple has shared many fun moments together, including attending the Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival last year. After dancing to music by Tyler, the Creator, they played arcade games, with Coco showing off her skills in *Pac-Man*. “Ya’ll can’t touch me in Ms. Pac-Man and Galaga,” she wrote in an Instagram story.
Even though Coco’s 2025 season has been challenging, she seems to be finding happiness with Jalen Sera by her side.
