Last year, tennis star Andy Murray candidly discussed the ups and downs of parenthood, joking that his nine-year-old daughter finds him “very embarrassing” and often treats him “like a stranger” in public. Now 38, Murray is a proud father to four children Sophia, Edie, Teddie, and Lola whom he shares with his wife, Kim.
Last year, just before beginning the final season of his career on the grass courts, the former Wimbledon champion revealed that his fame doesn’t impress his eldest daughter, Sophia, explaining, “She finds me very embarrassing—when I pick her up from school, she won’t walk beside me, and I’m not even allowed to get out of the car when I drop her off.”
She acts like I’m a stranger when we’re around her friends, which makes things really difficult especially for me.
She’s just eight (now nine) and already behaves like that, so I can only imagine how much harder it will get as she grows older.
Murray retired from tennis at Wimbledon last summer to focus on his family, yet his competitive spirit keeps him regularly playing at his local golf club as he strives to improve his handicap.
Earlier this year, the three-time Grand Slam champion made a comeback to professional tennis by taking on the role of Novak Djokovic’s coach.
However, their coaching partnership concluded before the French Open began.
