The Indiana Hoosiers women’s basketball team bounced back from a rough stretch with a dominant win over the Purdue Boilermakers. The Hoosiers’ 73-56 victory was a much-needed confidence boost for the team, which had lost three of its previous four games.
Indiana’s win was fueled by a strong performance from its offense, which shot 52% from the field and 44% from three-point range. The Hoosiers also dominated the boards, outrebounding Purdue 38-24.
Junior guard Sydney Parrish led the way for Indiana, scoring a game-high 18 points on 7-12 shooting from the field. Parrish also grabbed 5 rebounds and dished out 3 assists.
Sophomore forward Mackenzie Holmes added 15 points and 8 rebounds for the Hoosiers, while freshman guard Shay Ciezki chipped in with 12 points and 4 assists.
Purdue’s leading scorer, senior guard Madison Layden, was held to just 10 points on 4-12 shooting from the field. The Boilermakers’ struggles on offense were compounded by their poor shooting from beyond the arc, where they made just 2 of 15 attempts.
The Hoosiers’ win was a significant one, as it marked their first victory over Purdue since 2020. Indiana improved to 17-7 overall and 8-5 in the Big Ten Conference, while Purdue fell to 14-10 overall and 5-8 in the conference.
Indiana’s head coach, Teri Moren, was thrilled with her team’s performance. “I’m so proud of our kids,” Moren said. “They played with a lot of heart and a lot of toughness. We knew it was going to be a challenge, but our kids rose to the occasion.”
The Hoosiers’ victory was also a testament to their improved play of late. After struggling through a tough stretch in January, Indiana has won two of its last three games, including victories over Purdue and Illinois.
With the win, the Hoosiers moved into sole possession of fourth place in the Big Ten standings. They will look to build on their momentum when they host Michigan State on Thursday.
