Liverpool supporters have shared their thoughts on the attacking partnership of Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz and Mohamed Salah, as the trio lined up together for the first time at Anfield in a pre-season friendly against Athletic Club. Arne Slot’s side played two games against the La Liga club on the same day, with the first ending in a 4-1 victory that saw the likes of Darwin Nunez and teenage sensation Rio Ngumoha get on the scoresheet.
The second game, which kicked off just over an hour after the first had finished, featured a completely new line-up that boasted the French, German and Egyptian stars in attack. And fans have already made their feelings clear about how they felt the run-out went.

As can often be the case with three big-name players in one team – two of whom are among the most expensive signings in the club’s history – the presence of egos can sometimes make it difficult to present a united front, as was rumoured to be the case during the latter stages of Sadio Mane’s time at Anfield. However, the first impression seems to put that fear to rest, as Ekitike, Wirtz and Salah linked up promisingly in front of the Kop for the first time.
Things couldn’t have started better for the hosts, with Ekitike’s run in behind the defence being picked out before the striker drove into the area and cut the ball back perfectly to captain-for-the-night Salah, who finished as coolly as you’d expect him to.
While the goal was no doubt the biggest highlight, there were other signs of life in the attack that got fans excited, while Wirtz was also a creative threat too, playing two key passes and missing two big chances, even if he did lose possession on numerous occasions.
For Liverpool supporters, though, they saw enough to be left impressed, with one fan saying: “This football is insane. The way Wirtz, Ekitike and Salah just connect with each other effortlessly…real hoopers.” A second added: “Wirtz, Ekitike, Salah man who the heck let that happen?”
A third said: “Wirtz, Ekitike and Salah in the same team. This is going to be an exciting season!” A fourth, meanwhile, insisted: “Salah breaking the assist record with Wirtz and Ekitike.”
