‘That doesn’t make sense’: Jamie Carragher flabbergasted as Mo Salah did not start vs PSG

Jamie Carragher struggles to understand why Arne Slot decided against starting Mohamed Salah in the return leg against PSG at Anfield.

“The manager will have his reasons, but Isak is nowhere near fit,” Carragher told CBS Sports after Liverpool’s 2-0 defeat eliminated them from the Champions League.

“Mohamed Salah didn’t play the first leg so he’s not like some of the players who played last week and then played at the weekend in the Premier League.

“He played in the Premier League and scored a goal. He’s still one of Liverpool’s best goalscorers. He’s used to this system. Isak’s never even played with Ekitike before.

“I don’t think Arne Slot is the type of manager who would be thinking ‘I remember what you did to me a few months ago, calling me out publicly’. Certain managers in the past, maybe Alex Ferguson, might think something like that. I don’t think Arne Slot would.

“Is it because he’s already announced he’s leaving? It’s something like ‘I’m going with the players who are going to be here next year.’ That’s the only thing I can think of. Even that doesn’t make sense. It’s about the here and now. I’m flabbergasted.”

Arkadiusz Milik has suffered another injury setback after picking up a muscle problem during training with Juventus.

According to the club’s official statement, the 32-year-old striker was injured on Tuesday, April 14, and medical tests revealed a moderate strain of the biceps femoris muscle in his right thigh.

Juventus did not provide a precise recovery timeline, but the player is scheduled for further medical examinations in around 10 days.

However, journalist Nicolo Schira reports that Milik is expected to be sidelined for approximately 20-30 days, meaning he will miss around one month of action.

This injury is particularly frustrating for the Polish forward, who had only just returned to competitive football in March 2026 after a long absence. He had made his first appearance in over 21 months in a match against US Sassuolo, following a serious injury suffered in a friendly between Poland and Ukraine in June 2024.

Overall, Milik has played just two official matches across the last two seasons, totaling only 34 minutes on the pitch, highlighting a prolonged and disrupted spell in his career due to recurring fitness problems.
