A Liverpool star has reportedly submitted a transfer request, creating a potential headache for manager Arne Slot.
The Reds have endured a tricky few weeks as they try to regain top form. While unbeaten in their last 10 matches, they haven’t been convincing, going winless in their last three games against Leeds United, Fulham, and Arsenal.
Injury problems have compounded Liverpool’s struggles, with Conor Bradley, Alexander Isak, and Hugo Ekitike all sidelined. Now, with the January transfer window open, reports suggest one player is eager to leave Anfield.
Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport claims Federico Chiesa has made it “crystal clear” he wants a move back to Juventus this month. The 28-year-old has struggled to secure a regular spot in Slot’s starting XI, and Juventus see him as the perfect addition.
This season, Chiesa has contributed two goals and three assists in 20 appearances across all competitions. Last month, Slot addressed Chiesa’s role:
“Every player has a chance to start, but we have many options in his position. He’s made an impact off the bench a few times.”
Slot also hinted Chiesa could fill in as a striker:
“He (Ekitike) isn’t the only No. 9 I have. Chiesa can play there too, so I have the option to rest him if needed.”
If Chiesa leaves, Liverpool will face a major shortage in attack, especially with Ekitike and Isak out and Mohamed Salah away on AFCON duty ahead of Egypt’s quarter-final clash with Ivory Coast.
Liverpool are next in action on Monday when they host Barnsley in the FA Cup third round at Anfield.
