After Liverpool signed Frimpong to replace the departing Trent Alexander-Arnold, there was hope that the Dutchman could provide the same degree of attacking threat to make up for the England international’s absence. But he’s not always been afforded opportunities this season, mainly because of injury issues.
The former Bayer Leverkusen right-back has had to steadily build fitness since then, but he was afforded an opportunity to start against the Premier League’s worst side. And he showed exactly what he could do in the build-up to the opening goal of the game, bursting into the box before having the awareness to cut the ball back to the unmarked Gravenberch.

On top of that, he was solid at the back when needed, winning all of his ground duels and not allowing anyone to dribble past him throughout the tie. It was an all-action performance from the 25-year-old, and if he can stay fit, then Slot has a real weapon on his hands.
Liverpool’s manager won’t be the only one enamored by what he saw from the defender on Saturday afternoon. Many fans watching at Anfield and on TV will also be thrilled with his display, with them hoping Frimpong can be the spark which helps revitalise their season.
Reacting to his performance on social media, one fan stated: “I’m just gonna throw it out there and say that I think Frimpong’s a really underrated player.” And another supporter echoed those thoughts, saying they have been impressed with the Dutchman all season.
