Virgil van Dijk has reportedly offered himself to Barcelona ahead of a potential free transfer next summer.
The Liverpool captain is said to be considering a new challenge in Spain, with his current contract at Anfield running until June 2027. According to ElNacional.cat, Van Dijk is keen on the possibility of continuing his career in La Liga once his Liverpool deal comes to an end.
The 35-year-old defender has established himself as one of Liverpool’s most important players and remains a key figure within the squad. However, his reported interest in a move to Barcelona could create an interesting situation as he approaches the final year of his contract.
Barcelona, meanwhile, are understood to have reservations about the potential move. Manager Hansi Flick is reportedly unconvinced by the idea of bringing in the experienced centre-back and would prefer the club to focus on younger defensive options as part of their long-term planning.
A move would therefore depend on whether Barcelona change their stance and decide that Van Dijk’s experience and leadership would be valuable to their squad.
For now, no agreement has been reached, and Van Dijk remains contracted to Liverpool until June 2027.
