Andy Carroll, former Liverpool and England national team player, has decided to release an autobiography titled Owning It. The book hasn’t been published yet, but it’s already surrounded by controversy.
In the book, Carroll revealed that Wayne Rooney used to invite players to drink in his hotel room during England national team training camps in 2010–2011. Allegedly, Andy and Rooney even got drunk together while with the England squad. Additionally, the ex-Liverpool player claimed that Wayne smoked and was surrounded by alcohol and cigarettes.
Rooney sent an official letter from his lawyers to the publisher of Carroll’s upcoming autobiography, threatening legal action if Andy does not retract the story.
“Wayne is furious. He’s determined. His lawyers sent a tough letter to the publisher. He’s demanding a retraction because it’s a complete lie. Wayne knows he’s no angel, but this is crossing the line. It’s a matter of principle,” a source told The Sun.
“Andy is panicking over the whole situation. He never for a second expected Rooney to react like this. Andy wanted to sell the book, and now he’s in a very difficult position. He might have to apologize publicly if he wants to avoid legal proceedings,” a source from the publication said.
“Everything Wayne has been doing lately marks a new phase in his career. He’s lost a lot of weight and given up alcohol — old habits are far behind him. Andy’s accusations of misconduct are the last thing he needs right now,” a Sun insider noted.
