Noland, a former four-star recruit out of Fairburn, Georgia, committed to Ohio State with high expectations. Known for his impressive arm strength, quick decision-making, and leadership on and off the field, Noland was widely considered one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2024 class. However, after spending time in Columbus, Noland admitted that the situation at Ohio State wasn’t what he had anticipated.
“The competition was fierce, and I have nothing but respect for the guys in that room,” Noland said in a recent interview. “But at the end of the day, I wanted to be somewhere that felt like home and gave me the best opportunity to develop and contribute early.”
Sources close to the program revealed that with Ohio State’s depth at quarterback — including standout players like Devin Brown and Lincoln Kienholz — Noland faced an uphill battle to see significant playing time in the near future. While Noland has the talent to compete at the highest level, the logjam at Ohio State’s QB position made it clear that his path to the field would require patience.
South Carolina, on the other hand, offered a more immediate opportunity. With the departure of veteran quarterback Spencer Rattler to the NFL Draft, the Gamecocks are searching for a new leader under center. Head coach Shane Beamer and his staff made Noland a top priority once he entered the transfer portal, and their vision for the program resonated deeply with the young quarterback.
“What Coach Beamer is building at South Carolina really excites me,” Noland said. “I want to be part of something special, and I believe in what they’re doing. The culture, the fans, the opportunity to play in the SEC — it all just felt right.”
Noland is expected to compete for the starting job immediately upon arrival, and his dual-threat abilities fit well within South Carolina’s evolving offensive scheme. Analysts believe his addition could be a game-changer for a team looking to rise in the competitive SEC East.
As for his departure from Ohio State, Noland expressed gratitude. “I’m thankful for my time there. I built relationships and learned a lot from the coaching staff and my teammates. But ultimately, I had to make the best decision for my future.”
