Yarden Garzon etched her name into the Indiana women’s basketball record books on Sunday, setting a new single-game program record for made three-pointers, as the Hoosiers powered past rival Purdue for a third consecutive 20-point victory. Behind Garzon’s career performance, Indiana defeated the Boilermakers with a final score of 95-62 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, once again asserting their dominance in the in-state rivalry.
Garzon, a sophomore guard, was electric from beyond the arc, knocking down seven three-pointers, breaking the previous program record for threes in a single game. She finished the night with 23 points, adding 5 rebounds and 4 assists in a well-rounded performance. Her sharp shooting helped Indiana build an early lead and never look back, as the Hoosiers controlled the game from the opening tip.
“I was just in rhythm tonight,” Garzon said after the win. “My teammates found me in good spots, and once a couple of shots fell, my confidence kept building. But more importantly, we got another big win over Purdue.”
With the victory, Indiana improved to 23-4 overall and 14-3 in Big Ten play, continuing their strong push toward the postseason. Sunday’s win also marked the third straight meeting in which Indiana has defeated Purdue by at least 20 points, showcasing how far the Hoosiers have come as a program under head coach Teri Moren.
Mackenzie Holmes also had a standout game for the Hoosiers, contributing 21 points and 8 rebounds, while Sara Scalia added 17 points, including three three-pointers of her own. Indiana shot an impressive 53% from the field and 48% from three-point range, with Garzon leading the way.
On the defensive end, Indiana held Purdue to just 36% shooting, forcing 15 turnovers and turning them into 22 points. The Hoosiers’ pressure defense made it difficult for Purdue to get into any kind of offensive rhythm, and by halftime, Indiana held a 48-30 lead.
For Purdue, it was another tough night against their rivals. The Boilermakers dropped to 11-16 overall and 4-12 in conference play, struggling to keep pace with Indiana’s high-powered offense and relentless defense. Purdue has not beaten Indiana since 2021, as the Hoosiers continue to widen the gap between the programs.
Indiana now shifts its focus to the final stretch of the regular season, where they are vying for a strong seed in both the Big Ten Tournament and the NCAA Tournament. With players like Garzon peaking at the right time, the Hoosiers look poised to make another deep postseason run.
“We’re playing our best basketball right now,” Moren said. “Yarden was incredible, and when we play together like this, we’re tough to beat.”
The Hoosiers will look to carry this momentum forward as March approaches, but for now, they can celebrate another decisive win over their biggest rival and a new record set by one of their brightest stars.
