Spanish media have pointed the finger at former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp after criticising Trent Alexander-Arnold’s performance in Real Madrid’s dramatic win over Celta Vigo.
Real secured a 95th-minute victory thanks to Federico Valverde, but Alexander-Arnold still faced harsh reviews despite assisting the opening goal with a corner for Aurelien Tchouameni.
Spanish outlet Marca claimed the England right-back’s defensive issues were nothing new and even referenced comments from Klopp, who once admitted he “failed to teach him how to defend.”
The report argued Alexander-Arnold has always thrived going forward rather than in defensive situations.
Other Spanish outlets also questioned his adaptation to La Liga, with SPORT handing him a brutal 3/10 rating and calling his situation “very worrying.”
Critics believe his attacking qualities remain clear, but doubts about his defending continue to follow him in Spain.
