Alexander Isak has raised fears of a serious injury after being forced off in Liverpool’s win over Tottenham, although Alisson Becker has given the Reds some hope
Alisson Becker has given an encouraging update on Alexander Isak’s injury, having suggested that the Liverpool striker’s injury may not be as bad as first feared.
Isak has given the Reds a major scare after he was forced off straight after scoring the opener in the 2-1 win over Tottenham on Saturday. He stayed down after a late challenge from Micky van de Ven as he fired the ball past Spurs goalkeeper Vicario, before being substituted by Jeremie Frimpong.
Although Isak was able to walk off the pitch, fears have been raised over a possible ACL injury, which would likely keep him out for a lengthy period of time.
Arne Slot didn’t seem too confident when asked about the issue after the game, although his goalkeeper gave a much more positive outlook.
Speaking to Stadium Astro, Alisson suggested that Isak may have avoided picking up a serious injury, although it should be noted that nothing has yet been confirmed.
“I think he’ll be okay,” Alisson said. “Happy for him for scoring the goal but of course we don’t want him to be injured.
“Hopefully it’s just a knock, nothing too serious, because he can help our team so much with his quality and that’s what we hope.”
Liverpool will certainly hope that Isak’s issue is nothing too serious, with injuries beginning to pile up for the Reds.
Conor Bradley also picked up a knock during Saturday’s game, with the right-back having been replaced by Isak at half-time before the striker then had to come off after just 14 minutes.
Ironically, Frimpong was also replaced in stoppage time by Federico Chiesa, although Slot has dismissed fears over an injury for the Netherlands international, despite needing treatment for a cut to his lip.
Isak and Bradley join Cody Gakpo, Wataru Endo, Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni on the injury list, while Mohamed Salah is of course unavailable after heading to the Africa Cup of Nations.
To make matters worse for Slot, he’ll be without Dominik Szoboszlai for the clash against Wolves on December 27 after the midfielder picked up his fifth yellow card of the campaign on Saturday, leading to a one-match suspension.
