Steven Gerrard is “very keen” to return to Liverpool and would find it very difficult to reject an interim manager offer, sources have told Football Insider.
Arne Slot is under pressure at Anfield after a woeful run of form in the Premier League, and Gerrard would be open to taking the reins on an interim basis should the opportunity arise.
Football Insider exclusively revealed last week that Liverpool had held “internal discussions” about appointing Gerrard on an interim basis, ahead of their 3-3 draw with Leeds United in the Premier League.
The 45-year-old has been away from management in the UK since he was sacked by Aston Villa back in October 2022, but he would be prepared to bring that spell to a close if he were to be approached by his former club.

Gerrard is among the bookies’ favourites to take over at Liverpool in the event that Slot is dismissed, in what would undoubtedly provide a popular appointment at Anfield.
The midfielder made over 500 appearances for his boyhood club during a distinguished playing career that saw him lift nine major trophies during his time with the Reds.
Gerrard then took charge of some of the club’s academy sides, before stepping into senior management for the first time with Rangers in 2018.

However, he struggled to have a positive impact during his managerial tenure in the Premier League, as he won just 12 of his 38 top-flight games in charge of the Villans, leaving him with a win percentage of just 31.58 per cent.
He has since spent time managing Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia, before leaving his position in the Middle East in January.
Gerrard’s tax situation to block Liverpool return until at April
Football Insider revealed earlier this week that Gerrard’s tax situation may prevent him from joining Liverpool until at least April.
A return to the UK would require the ex-England international to forfeit a significant portion of his earnings from his time in Saudi Arabia, such is his current tax situation.
That will remain the case until at least April, when the current tax year draws to a close.
While it isn’t impossible for Gerrard to accept a managerial job at Liverpool or elsewhere in the UK during that time, it would likely come at a hefty financial cost for him.
As a result, while there is some level of interest from both parties, it seems unlikely that anything will come to fruition for at least a few months.
