Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has already delivered high praise to Paris-Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique amid rumours he could move to Anfield. Arne Slot is the current head coach of the Reds, but there has been intense speculation about his future in the job.

Back-to-back defeats to Nottingham Forestand PSV Eindhoven after the international break has seen pressure mount of Slot’s spot in the Anfield dugout. Liverpool have now lost six of their last seven Premier Leaguematches, nine out of 12 in all competitions, and have lost each of their last three games by a three-goal margin.

Slot’s future remains uncertain, but it seems that the Liverpool hierarchy are sticking with the Premier League title-winning manager for the time being. However, it has not stopped rumours of potential successors already being lined up.

A report in The Sun has claimed that Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique is a candidate to be the next Liverpool managerif a change is made. Enrique guided PSG to the Champions League title last season, with the French giants claiming a 5-0 win over Inter Milan in the final.

PSG also defeated Liverpool in the last-16 stage last season on their way to lifting the trophy. Gerrard was working as a pundit for the Champions League final last season and explained why Enrique should be regarded as one of the best managers in the world.

“Does Luis Enrique deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Carlo Ancelotti, Jose Mourinho or Pep Guardiola? The answer is yes,” Gerrard told TNT Sports during the broadcaster’s Champions League final coverage back in May.

“This team he has created and put together over the past year or two can beat you in any given way. The talent across this squad – it is a special group of players and they’re getting coached by a special person as well.”

It remains to be seen what decision Liverpool will go with when it comes to Slot’s future, with a Premier League clash against West Ham on Sunday next on the agenda. Slot was asked about his future after Liverpool’s defeat to PSV in the Champions League, where he admitted he is not surprised by the gossip given the club’s run of form.

“It is a shock for everyone, for the players, for me, this is very, very unexpected,” said Slot on Wednesday. “I am feeling safe, I am okay though.

“It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that questions are asked.

“If any manager around the world loses football games, let alone as many as we have lost, it’s quite normal people have an opinion about that. If it’s fair or unfair, it’s for other people to judge. Is that normal? I think it is. If you lose so many times, people start talking about that.

“I have got a lot of support from above. I am okay with my position. They [the board] don’t call every single minute of the day to say they trust me but in the normal conversations we have, I feel the trust.”
