Arne Slot has come under fire for his ‘shameless’ post-match remarks following Liverpool’s 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup.
Slot raised eyebrows with his team selection ahead of kick-off, naming three teenagers in his starting eleven and another five on the bench.
He made ten changes from the side beaten 3-2 at Brentford on Saturday and pointed to Liverpool’s squad depth after the final whistle, comparing it to that of Manchester City and Chelsea.
Slot’s comments drew criticism from the football community, with some accusing the Dutchman of being ‘desperate’ following another damaging defeat marked by poor defending and little to no attacking threat.

Slot’s remarks were met with strong criticism from across the football community. Journalist Luke Edwards wrote that the Dutchman is “starting to sound a little desperate”:

One user on X added: “Not great from Slot. After spending hundreds of millions on Ekitike, Isak, and other pieces, there’s genuinely 0 excuse to be this bad. The signings did not address any needs…but it’s still inexcusable to pull the “we don’t have depth” conversation.”

Liverpool, who have endured a poor run of results in October with just one win, face a tough set of fixtures ahead.
Slot’s side host Aston Villa in the league on Saturday, take on Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday, and then travel to Manchester City on Sunday, 9 November.
