Liverpool approach the Champions League game against Frankfurt on a big losing streak – the Reds have now lost 4 games in a row, including the defeat against Man United last weekend.
Arne Slot definitely needs to shake things up in order to change the situation – and one part of it might actually be benching several players who definitely are not performing up to the expectations so far.
Mohamed Salah
The Egyptian King is arguably Liverpool’s biggest disappointment of the season so far. After an incredible 2024/25 season, Salah clearly has lost ground, and looks like a pale shadow of his prime version.
Federico Chiesa averages a goal contribution every 34 minutes this season – however, he is yet to start a single game. Arne Slot can kill two birds with one stone by putting Fede in the starting XI: showing the Italian he is a part of the club’s plans, and giving Salah the much needed rest and competition.
Alexander Isak
The Swedish striker joined Liverpool on transfer deadline day, skipping the whole pre-season – so it’s no wonder he hasn’t reached his peak form yet. Counting on Isak as a starter right now might be costly for Liverpool, considering his only goal came against the Championship side Southampton in the Carabao Cup. Alexander has his chances – however, he is wasting almost all of them in his current form.
Hugo Ekitike looks much better and more clinical right now – and he also will have a special motivation against Frankfurt, Hugo’s former club where he made a name for himself.
Milos Kerkez
While the Hungarian left-back had some good games after joining Liveprool, he is too nervous and inconsistent. This was especially visible in the game against Man United, where he made a few costly mistakes. Looks like Kerkez needs a bit more time to fully adapt and become a crucial starter for Liverpool.
But right now, returning Andrew Robertson to the starting XI sounds like the right move. We all know how good Robbo can be – and his quality and consistency might exactly be the thing Liverpool need to get back on winning ways.
