Alexander Isak is downing tools at Newcastle United as he desires a move to Liverpool, where he can expect a massive increase in weekly wages.
Liverpool have yet to meet Newcastle’s £150m valuation of the striker after failing with a £110m offer. But the Reds seem keen to make him their next big-money signing and this is reflected by the money they are prepared to offer him.
Alexander Isak To Become One Of Liverpool’s Top Earners
sak purportedly earns £120,000 per week at Newcastle, which makes him the club’s joint-third highest earner alongside Kieran Trippier and Sandro Tonali. He will see that amount double should he join Arne Slot’s reigning champions before the window slams shut on September 1.
Sky Sport Germany reports that Liverpool are willing to make the former Real Sociedad frontman the joint third top earner in Slot’s side. He’s expected to earn £250,000 per week, the same amount new signing Hugo Ekitike was handed when arriving from Eintracht Frankfurt.
Isak would be behind Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, who both penned new deals earlier this year, as their previous contracts were set to expire this summer. Their Egyptian forward, who won last season’s golden boot, now earns a staggering £400,000 per week.
Van Dijk, who captained Slot’s Reds to Premier League glory, is just lower than Salah, taking home £385,000 per week. The tide has well and truly turned at Anfield from a spending perspective as the club sat fifth in the list of Premier League clubs’ wage bills back in May.
Jurgen Klopp famously once said that the Merseyside giants couldn’t compete with the riches of Manchester City and Newcastle United. If Isak does pull on a red shirt in front of the Kop next season, they will likely have shattered the Premier League transfer record while moving up the wage bill rankings.
