Journalists can’t believe what some Palace fans did during minute’s silence for Diogo Jota

Crystal Palace and Liverpool face each other in the Community Shield game at Wembley today, and the game marked a minute’s silence for Diogo Jota, who passed away in an accident earlier this summer. 

Before kick-off, both clubs paid tribute to Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, who tragically died in a car accident in Spain in July.

A minute’s silence was held in memory of the brothers, but reports from inside Wembley suggest the moment was marred by a small minority of Crystal Palace supporters who chose to boo the gesture.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have retired the player’s number 20 shirt out of respect for Jota and they have decided to honour his contract as well.

While the rivalry between the two teams is understandable, the action from a minority of Crystal Palace fans will certainly leave the Liverpool fans and neutrals disappointed. 

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace trail Liverpool 1-2 at the time of writing. Goals from Hugo Ekitike and Jeremie Frimpong have put the Reds ahead this afternoon, and it will be interesting to see if they can go on and win the shield eventually. 

Liverpool have certainly looked like the sharper unit so far, and they have controlled large portions of the game. Arne Slot can also be happy with his new signings so far.
