Liverpool target PSG superstar in stunning move no-one saw coming as Alexander Isak saga takes wildest twist yet

Liverpool have set their sights on a Paris Saint-Germain star in what would be a statement signing by the Premier League champions.

Liverpool have already been aggressive in this summer’s transfer window, signing Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Armin Pecsi, Hugo EkitikeFlorian Wirtz, Will Wright and Freddie Woodman.

The Reds have also been heavily linked with Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak and saw a £110m bid rejected by the Magpies last week.

Several players, including Trent Alexander-Arnold and Luis Diaz, have departed during the window, with Al Hilal also reportedly close to signing Darwin Nunez, having reached an agreement in principle with the player earlier today (August 6).

Caoimhin Kelleher and Tyler Morton are among the other notable exits.

But Liverpool’s dealings in the summer window could be set to continue.

As reported by French outlet L’Equipe, the Reds have also lined up PSG winger Bradley Barcola to bolster their already strong attack ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.

In addition to the France international, the Premier League champions are also considering a move for Real Madrid’s Rodrygo, who has also been linked with Arsenal.

It is not totally clear how this could impact any potential second approach for Isak, but the Reds are considering the two aforementioned players without “giving up on Isak”.

PSG would not allow Barcola to leave for a fee less than €100 million (£87.2m). The 22-year-old formed part of the club’s treble-winning squad during the 2024/25 campaign, in which he registered 21 goals and 21 assists in 64 appearances. Barcola, who is contracted to PSG until 2028, plays predominantly as a left-winger and would likely be seen as a replacement for Nunez and Diaz. And although there’s no doubting the player’s talent, Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia appear to be ahead of him in Luis Enrique’s pecking order.

Luis Enrique on Bradley Barcola exit

Enrique was pressed on the topic of Barcola potentially leaving PSG back in June, to which he replied: “Bradley Barcola’s future? I have no doubt he’ll remain our player. We like the fact that our players are interesting to other clubs. But he’s one of those young players we’ve been banking on. I expect him to play here for many more years. and I think that’s what he wants too. So, I have no doubts that he will remain our player.”Featured Image Credit: Getty
