David Ornstein has provided an update on the Benjamin Sesko transfer situation as Newcastle United have made a bid for the RB Leipzig striker.
The Slovenia international has not yet decided his future, with Manchester United also mentioned as still being in the race for his signature in Ornstein’s report for the Athletic.
Ornstein states that Newcastle have submitted a package worth €80m for Sesko, which ties in quite well with what Slovenian outlet Delo reported.
However, they also claimed that Sesko had already seemed to choose Newcastle over United, which is not Ornstein’s current information.
This perhaps gives United some hope of still being able to lure the 22-year-old to Old Trafford.
Newcastle United working to sign Sesko to replace Isak?
Newcastle’s bid for Sesko surely means they’re preparing for the possibility that star striker Alexander Isak could be leaving St James’ Park.
The Sweden international has been the subject of a bid from Liverpool, which NUFC turned down, according to BBC Sport.
That BBC report suggested Liverpool were unlikely to keep on pursuing Isak, who may be too expensive, but perhaps that could change if Sesko is brought in by the Magpies.
Isak won’t be easy to replace, but Sesko is a top young talent who could go some way towards helping Eddie Howe rebuild this team.

Sesko could be ideal for United’s needs up front, but it remains to be seen if they can still get this deal done
Newcastle have Champions League football on offer, whereas the Red Devils aren’t in any European competition next season.
That could make Newcastle more tempting for Sesko, but United really need signings like this to be coming off if they are to get back to where they want to be.
