Harvey Elliott has been backed to quit Liverpool this summer and move to the Bundesliga amid growing interest in a permanent transfer.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson explained that a number of Premier League and Bundesliga clubs have been keeping a close eye on the 22-year-old’s situation.
There is a growing belief that he will leave Anfield in search of more regular playing time, with Bundesliga clubs prepared to offer him that opportunity.
This comes after Football Insider revealed on 2 July that Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig want Elliott and are prepared to rival Premier League clubs for his signature.
With the likes of Jude Bellingham and Jadon Sancho having thrived in Germany, Elliott is thought to be keen to make the move away from English football.
The situation was compared to that of Man City’s James McAtee, as Robinson told Football Insider McAtee could follow in Bellingham’s footsteps.
Harvey Elliott to leave Liverpool as Bundesliga clubs join race
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 10 July that Elliott is “certain” to leave Liverpool this summer with plenty of clubs keeping tabs on his situation.
Following his performances at the Under-21 Euros, the midfielder must make the step up to playing more regular football after starting just two games under Arne Slot.
Robinson explained that a move to a Bundesliga club will allow him to develop his game while starting 25-30 games per season as seen with previous moves.
“It’s a very similar situation to McAtee at Manchester City,” he told Football Insider.
“He’s a player we know has got a lot of talent and potential, but the squad is strengthening around him and it would seem his game time is getting less and less.
“He’s 22, has had a fantastic international career at Under-21 level with 28 caps and 14 goals for the Under-21s.
“Look at what he did at the Euros with six games and five goals, he was outstanding and one of the standout players of the tournament.
“He won’t get the opportunities he wants at Liverpool this year, and he’s contracted until 2027 so there’s an opportunity for Liverpool to move him on.
“There’s a lot of good English talent that has come out of the Bundesliga, gone over there, and come back to the Premier League.
“That is now an incredible avenue the likes of Elliott will look at and won’t be afraid to make.
“It’s been proven as a league that is successful for these types of players.
“With Harvey Elliott, there are a number of Premier League clubs looking at him, and for his own career and development it is time to move on.
“It’s now time, at 22, to kick on, progress, and not to be a bit-part player in the squad.
“He needs to go and start 25-30 games per season and do that consistently.”
Luis Diaz ‘in negotiations’ amid Bayern Munich interest
Elliott is not the only player who could be leaving Anfield this summer, as both Barcelona and Bayern Munich are keen to sign Luis Diaz.
Football Insider revealed on 13 July that Diaz is “in negotiations” about leaving Liverpoolafter refusing to commit his long-term future to the Merseyside club.
However, they have yet to reach an agreement with Liverpool over a transfer fee as Slot’s side rebuffed an offer from Bayern Munich earlier this month.
